41 packages of Golgappa water were found to contain chemicals that cause cancer: The name “golgappas” makes everyone’s mouth swim because it’s such a delicious street snack. Most individuals enjoy eating it as a late-night snack. Even in the evening, some people consume Gol Gappa to state their appetite. In many parts of India, it goes by different names. Some refer to it as Puchka, while others call it Pani Puri. In addition, this street cuisine goes by a lot of names. However, did you know that 22% of Karnataka’s pani puri samples don’t match the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s (FSSAI) requirements for quality? Understand the report’s findings.
What was said in the report?
Research claims that roughly 22% of pani puris marketed in Karnataka do not adhere to the FSSAI’s safety guidelines. From all around the state, the officials had gathered 260 samples of Pani Puri. Of these, 41 were deemed dangerous due to the presence of chemicals known to cause cancer along with artificial colouring. In addition, 18 were deemed to be of low quality and unfit for consumption. It was discovered that several of the samples were stale and unfit for ingestion. Tartrazine, sunset yellow, dazzling blue, and other chemicals that can lead to several health issues were discovered in the Pani Puri sample.
Karnataka should impose a ban first.
The food colouring ingredient Rhodamine-B, which was used in foods including Gobi Manchurian and cotton candy, was outlawed by the Karnataka government.
How to check whether Golgappa water is adulterated or not?
Although different people produce Pani Puri water in different ways, you can easily detect adulteration if there is any form of chemical or colour added. Remember that the water would be light brown if it comes from tamarind. On the other hand, it will be dark green if the coriander is mint water. The water may have been tampered with if its colour turns light. In the event that Golgappa contains mixed acid, the flavour will be bitter, and the stomach will burn right away.
